Learn the Foxtrot, Waltz & Tango

The Foxtrot is a smooth, progressive ballroom dance characterized by long, flowing movements across the dance floor with a basic slow-slow-quick-quick rhythm pattern. Developed in the early 1900s, it emphasizes elegant gliding steps and graceful turns, making it one of the most popular and accessible social dances for beginners and experienced dancers alike.

The waltz is a graceful ballroom dance performed in 3/4 time signature, featuring a distinctive "one-two-three" rhythm where dancers glide around the floor in sweeping circular patterns. Originating in Austria and Germany in the late 18th century, it's characterized by its flowing, romantic movements and the signature rise and fall motion that creates an elegant, floating quality.

The tango is a passionate, dramatic ballroom dance characterized by sharp, staccato movements, intricate footwork, and intense connection between partners who maintain close physical contact throughout. Originating in the late 19th century in the working-class neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, Argentina, it features sudden pauses, dramatic poses, and a distinctive walking rhythm that creates an atmosphere of sultry intensity and controlled power.
Singles and couples are welcome in all of our classes.

Latin

Bachata is a popular Latin dance characterized by smooth hip movements, close partner connection, and a distinctive four-beat pattern with a signature "pop" or tap on the fourth count. Originating in the Dominican Republic in the 1960s, it features flowing movements and expressive styling that reflects the emotional storytelling found in traditional bachata music.

The Cha-Cha is a lively Latin dance characterized by a distinctive "cha-cha-cha" triple step pattern and syncopated rhythm that creates a playful, flirtatious mood between partners. Originating in Cuba in the 1950s, it features sharp hip movements, quick footwork, and staccato actions that emphasize the off-beat timing, making it both energetic and precise.
Cha-Cha is taught in our Latin class, along with Rumba and Samba. -
Salsa is a vibrant, rhythmic Latin dance characterized by quick footwork, hip movements, and intricate turn patterns performed to upbeat Afro-Caribbean music with a distinctive clave rhythm. Originating from a fusion of Cuban, Puerto Rican, and other Latin American dance styles, it emphasizes improvisational partner work, syncopated steps, and an energetic, celebratory atmosphere that makes it a popular social dance worldwide.

The samba is a vibrant Brazilian dance characterized by bouncing, rhythmic movements, rolling hips, and a distinctive "bounce action" created by bending and straightening the knees in sync with the syncopated 2/4 rhythm. Originating from African and Brazilian folk traditions, it features rapid footwork, expressive body isolations, and an exuberant, carnival-like energy that makes it one of the most dynamic and joyful ballroom dances.

The rumba is a slow, romantic Latin dance characterized by smooth hip movements, controlled walks, and expressive movements that emphasize the emotional connection between partners. Originating in Cuba and later refined for ballroom dancing, it features a distinctive box step pattern with delayed timing and focuses on storytelling through graceful, flowing movements and dramatic poses.
Rumba is taught in our Latin class, along with Cha-Cha and Samba.

East Coast Swing developed in the 1940s as a simplified version of Lindy Hop, making swing dancing easy to learn and accessible to everyone. Danced with a fun six-count rhythm, it's one of the most popular social dances and pairs perfectly with rock 'n' roll, swing, and upbeat contemporary music. Its simple patterns and energetic style make it an excellent introduction to partner dancing and a favourite at weddings, parties, and social dances.

Lindy Hop is the original swing dance, born in the vibrant ballrooms of Harlem, New York, during the late 1920s. Danced to jazz and big band music, it combines lively footwork, playful improvisation, and an energetic partner connection that makes every dance unique. As one of the most influential social dances in history, Lindy Hop inspired many of the swing styles that followed, including East Coast Swing.
