Ballroom

Learn the Foxtrot, Waltz & Tango

The foxtrot is a smooth, progressive dance characterized by long, continuous flowing movements across the dance floor. It is danced to big band (usually vocal) music. The dance is similar in its look to waltz. Developed in the 1910s, the foxtrot reached its height of popularity in the 1930s and remains practiced today.

See a sample of the foxtrot in our group classes HERE.

The waltz is a ballroom and folk dance performed primarily in the closed position and sometimes referred to by the generic term German Dance in publications during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

See a sample of the waltz in our group classes HERE.

The tango is a partner dance and social dance that originated in the 1880s along the Río de la Plata, the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. The tango was born in the impoverished port areas of these countries from a combination of Argentine Milonga, Spanish-Cuban Habanera, and Uruguayan Candombe celebrations. Many variations of this dance currently exist around the world.

Singles and couples are welcome in all of our classes.

Latin Dances

Salsa is one of the most popular types of Latin dance practiced worldwide and is typically danced with a partner. There are several distinct styles of salsa that are danced around the world. Salsa dance socials are commonly held in night clubs, bars, ballrooms, restaurants, and outside, especially if part of an outdoor festival.

The Cha-Cha is danced to authentic Cuban music, although in ballroom competitions it is often danced to Latin pop or Latin rock. The music for the international ballroom cha-cha is energetic and with a steady beat.

The Samba is a lively dance of Afro-Brazilian origin, danced to samba music. Today, Samba is the most prevalent dance form in Brazil and reaches the height of its importance during the festival of Carnaval.

Bachata is a social couple dance with a lead and follow that can be performed in open, semi-closed or closed position. The basic step involves an eight-count side-to-side movement, with many variations and styles that can be added.

Bachata is still danced today in the Caribbean and worldwide, and has been evolving for several decades. It is increasingly danced to faster music, adding more footwork, simple turns and rhythmic free-styling with alternation between close and open position.

Rhumba, also known as ballroom rumba, is a genre of ballroom music and dance that appeared in the East Coast of the United States during the 1930s. It combined American big band music with Afro-Cuban rhythms, primarily the son cubano, but also conga and rumba. Although taking its name from the latter, ballroom rumba differs completely from Cuban rumba in both its music and its dance.

Singles and couples are welcome in all of our classes.

Line Dancing

A line dance is a choreographed dance in which a group of people dance along to a repeating sequence of steps while arranged in one or more lines or rows. These lines usually face all in the same direction, or less commonly face each other. Unlike circle dancing, line dancers are not in physical contact with each other. Each dance is usually associated with, and named for, a specific song, such as Footloose or the Electric Slide.

Our line dance classes are popular and fill up fast for a reason! You'll learn a handful of line dances to new and classic country, rock, and pop songs, and every dance is broken down into easy-to-follow steps. These are great classes to join with friends, as a date night or girls' night out.

Hustle/Disco

The Hustle refers to the unique partner dance done in nightclubs to disco music. Hustle has steps in common with Mambo and Salsa and basic steps are somewhat similar to Euro dance style Discofox, which emerged at about the same time and is more familiar in various European countries. Modern partner hustle is sometimes referred to as New York hustle, however, its original name is the Latin hustle.

We're addicted to this dance, and we believe you will be, too! Singles and couples are welcome in all of our classes.
